English as a second language Program (ESL)

The ESL program at WIC is for adults who are 18 years of age and above. The ESL program is an outcome based, goal oriented and research based program. There will be an intensive four days of orientation (required), appraisal, testing and other admission processes. Students take nationally recognized TABE pre-tests and post-tests. The ESL program includes:

  • Resume preparation
  • Job search interview
  • Job retention skills.
  • Teaches Civics
  • Prepares eligible adults for the citizenship test

Orientation

All NEW applicants must attend all four days of orientation.

Classes

We conveniently offer classes at two times daily.

Morning classes

  • Seven weeks
  • Monday thru Thursday
  • 8:30 AM until noon

Evening classes

  • Monday thru Thursday
  • 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Fees

  • Materials $20 for 6 months
  • Books $30-$40

Our Goals

At WIC the main goals we have for our students are:

  • Learn English
  • Obtain employment, if not employed
  • Improve communication skills to retain employment, or find better employment
  • Pursue a General Education Diploma (GED)
  • If a student completed high school in home country, pursue post-secondary education

WIC will conduct English classes at a company premises, if needed, for non-English speaking employees. The program will be tailored to the employers’ requirement.
